Baddies, lets talk about how often we should be changing our mascara and lip products 👀
Whether you are a baddie who wears full makeup everyday or a baddie who likes to keep it simple, we all should be monitoring how long our products are in our makeup collection.
There are many reason we like to hold onto our mascara and lipsticks longer than we should: maybe you keep scraping the tube of the last bit because you keep forgetting to get a new tube or you like to hold onto the pricier tube from your fav brand that just hits different than the drug store brand even after a few months.
No matter what the reason is you should be informed and practice healthy and safe habits.
FDA Recommendations
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends discarding your mascara 3 months after you buy it.
This is not for every makeup product! The FDA states that eye area products are more limited and have shorter shelf life than other products. This is because when you use your mascara, there is repeated microbial exposure as well as risk of eye infections. Make sure you do not bring in germs by adding salvia or water to your mascara and make sure to throw away any eye products if you do get an eye infection.
For lip products, it is best to change them out every 6 months. This is due to lip makeup harboring microorganisms which can reinfect the skin. If you become sick and or develop a cold sore, it is best to throw away those products and replace them.
Baddie Tip:
-When you open a new makeup product write the date you got it on the actual product
-Or you can create a folder in your notes section where you keep a list of your products and write the date there. You can access that list/date anytime on your phone!
This way you can remember the date you purchased the makeup product and you will know when to throw it away regardless if it's been fully used. This is a good excuse to try new products and change up your makeup routine! Remember safely first, especially during these times. We love you 💕
