For this blog, we are discussing gut health and tips that aid a healthy gut. I personally have dealt with gut issues and constantly being nauseous so I wanted to learn more about this. Your gut, also known as gastrointestinal tract, helps your body digest food and metabolize nutrients. Your gut is linked to a healthy immune system, cardiovascular system, and endocrine system. It is essential in fighting off infectious pathogens.

Both prebiotics and probiotics support the body in building and maintaining a healthy colony of bacteria and other microorganisms, which supports the gut and helps with digestion.

Probiotics

Probiotics are living organisms that are found naturally in foods. They are good/beneficial bacteria that prevents harmful bacteria from settling in your gut. Probiotics are the 'good' bacteria in fermented foods. They are found in kombucha, greek yogurt, kimchi, and kefir. You can also take supplements to get probiotics into your diet which is a great option however, getting them from whole foods is the best option.

Prebiotics

Prebiotics are not digested by the body but nourish the organisms in the colon. Prebiotics are found in a variety of fruits and vegetables such as cauliflower, asparagus, kale, raspberries, artichoke, garlic, soybeans, onions, leeks, bananas, oats, apples, mushrooms and dragon fruit. If you consume a good variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet, then you are probably doing okay with getting the right amount of prebiotics.

A healthy gut improves your mood and your overall wellness. Foods that have added sugar, preservatives, additives, and are processed can cause major destruction to your gut and your mood. Your mental stress and physical stress play a role in your gut health. If you are stressed, anxious, and/or depressed it will affect your gut health. Finding ways to properly handle stress in your life is essential in maintaining a healthy gut.

So to really improve your gut health, eat a balanced diet with vegetables and fruits, make sure you are getting a balance of probiotics and prebiotics in your diet, and work on ways that help you balance stress in your life.

I have linked some of my favorite kinds of kombucha on my storefront along with probiotic supplements and teas that I like:  shop ellie's wellness picks!

I hope you all enjoyed this blog and benefited from it in some way. I am wishing you all happy holidays 💝✨

Until next time baddies,
